The Doctor in Dentistry will enable you to: practice the dental profession according to the best work traditions, know the communication techniques to create a trust-based relationship with the patient, practice the dental profession according to the best work traditions, know and apply professional techniques, rules, ethics and correctness, considering the patient as a human being and not just as a client.
Doctors in Dentistry practice their profession according to the principle of social solidarity, without distinction of gender and race, especially with regard to the most vulnerable groups. They watch over citizens’ oral health and always promote well-being and benefits for patients, not only from the pathological point of view but also from the aesthetic one. Doctor in Dentistry pay particular attention to the diagnosis and prevention, providing patients with clear and complete information.
Doctor in Dentistry help promote and safeguard public health – in loyal cooperation with the other healthcare professionals and thanks to constantly updated knowledge and expertise – by improving life standards, lifestyles and human dignity in all its expressions.
Particular attention will be paid to ethics applied to the profession, to research and to the relationship with the patient seen as a person rather than a number.
The Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Science (MFQ: Level 6, Mode of Study: Full-time, Duration: 5 years, ECTS: 300, Language: English, issued by UCM United Campus of Malta HEI Foundation, is accredited by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education and is based on the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF).
The Malta Qualifications Framework is mapped against:
– the European Qualification Framework (EQF);
– the Qualifications Frameworks in the European Higher Education Area (QF/EHEA);
– the Transnational Qualifications Framework (TQF).
The qualification allows you to practice the profession of Doctor of Dentistry in Malta and in the European Union, following the approval of the Medical Council.

In this regard, it seems appropriate to specify that each State – in order to grant the authorization to practice the profession – could, at its discretion, request a supplement to the internship or an additional examination or other (see Directive 2005/36/EC and Directive 2013/55/EU)
The UCM graduate in Dental Science will also have the faculty of requesting the recognition of the professional qualification to the national regulatory bodies for the exercise and qualification of the profession, if he/she wishes to exercise the profession outside the Maltese territory. In this respect, each State may, at its discretion, request a traineeship supplement or a supplementary examination or other (see Directive 2005/36/EC and Directive 2013/55/EU).
The UCM graduate in Dental Science graduate who wanted to work in Italy will also have the faculty of:
a) requesting the academic recognition of the qualification (obtaining the corresponding Italian qualification) from an Italian University of preference (pursuant to art. 2, Law 148/2002 of the Italian Law).
b) requesting non-academic recognition in Italy for access to public competitions from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department of Public Administration – P.P.A. Office (pursuant to Art. 38 of Legislative Decree 165/2001 and Art. 2 of Presidential Decree 189/2009 of the Italian regulatory framework).
The primary objectives of the course are to achieve expert subject knowledge, develop an ethical perspective and promote a critical thinking process enabling students to permanently improve and continue their studies in a lifelong learning perspective, also considering the critical issues met during these first five years. Students will become aware, right from the beginning of the course, of the ever-changing nature of knowledge and technology, so to understand the importance of staying constantly updated.
