Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), has been awarded with an honorary Degree in Social Studies, in recognition of her efforts to promote social work and the values of tolerance and a certificate of appreciation for her humanitarian efforts during the coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic, through her various projects and initiatives.
Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State, received the Honorary Degree and the certificate of appreciation on behalf of Sheikha Fatima, in the presence of Manuela Sotgiu-Di Martino, President of Ludes Swiss Campus Lugano and UCM Malta, who participated remotely, in addition to Shehab Ahmed Al Fahim, Assistant Under-Secretary for Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Hamad Khalfan Al Shamsi, Director-General of Sheikha Fatima’s Private Department, and Professor Abdallah Raweh, Vice Rector of Ludes Switzerland and UCM, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, London UK, and Dr. Fausto Gennuso, General Director of UCM Malta and Swiss Ludes Campus in Lugano (remotely).
On the occasion, Al Shamsi delivered a speech that conveyed the greetings of Sheikha Fatima to Ludes Swizerland and UCM for honouring her and awarding her with the certificate.
The honour is a recognition of Sheikha Fatima’s efforts insupporting women, children and the elderly for decades, as well as in the promotion of family stability and community cohesion, discouraging discrimination among peoples based on gender, religion or belief, Al Shamsi said.
Sheikha Fatima’s initiatives in the areas of women’s empowerment, education, health and social care and humanitarian work are based on the values of coexistence, peace and tolerance, she noted.
In her speech, Al Shamsi highlighted Sheikha Fatima’s local and international work to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
On behalf of the academic community, Manuela Sotgiu-Di Martino thanked Her Highness Sheikha Fatima and stressed that the honoring is a turning point in the history of Ludes Swiss Campus and UCM Malta, as Sheikha Fatima deserves the honor for her social role in promoting tolerance and for her humanitarian work.
Sheikha Fatima has always prioritized vulnerable people around the world, especially women and children, she added, noting that her global humanitarian campaigns cover the poorest areas of the world.
President Manuela Sotgiu-Di Martino added: Her Highness SHEIKHA FATIMA BINT MUBARAK has always been attentive to the needs of the world’s weakest population, particularly children and women, promoting her Global Humanitarian Campaign in the most needy regions of the world through a volunteer program under the supervision of a staff of professionals from the United Arab Emirates with the aim of providing the best social services and important medical care, thus relieving the suffering of women and children in a framework of humanitarian action independent of color, race or religion.
In her speech, Manuela Sotgiu – Di Martino highlighted thehistory of the Swiss Campus Ludes, saying: “During these years of activity in Lugano, Switzerland, many students have been educated, trained and graduated. The Lugano Campus has hosted illustrious scientists, researchers, and representatives of government institutions, and has participated in social and sporting events, promoting the exchange of knowledge and culture.
In her speech, Manuela Sotgiu-Di Martino thanked Prof. Abdallah Raweh Vice Rector for his efforts to strengthen the cooperation between the countries in the Academic and medical field.
At the end of the Ceremony, Prof. Abdallah Raweh, Vice Rector of Swiss Ludes Campus and UCM, delivered a speech in which he said: “let me offer my hearty congratulations to Her Highness Shiekha Fatima Bint Mubarak, God Bless her, on being granted an Honorary Degree. This doctorate is being granted now to such an eminent personality whose remarkable accomplishments are so exceptional.
The initiatives and projects of Her Highness reflect the sense of humanity and welfare that characterize her continuous commitment to the young and the elderly throughout the world. This committment started with the late Shiekh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the Union, and is still ongoing.
Her Highness Shiekha Fatima is a role model for all of us in the area of welfare and humanitarian work at all levels. Ludes’s community pray for God to bless Her Highness and keep her at the service of humanity.”
